SCSI drive hangs during install

Installing Mandrake 10 on SCSI drive causes the drive to become inaccessible. Only powering the unit off/on will reset it. Its an IBM drive and an AHA 2940U controller. Funny thing is this drive and controller work fine with version 8.1 so why can't I install 10 on this drive? The drive and controller have been exhaustively tested and there are no faults showing up on them.
