script to get monitor serial


Hi guys

I have a couple of machines on my network i need to get the serial number of each monitor in the network remotely

can anyone suggest a script or any other mechanism where i can get the serial number with out disturbing the users.

Do you think the monitors are able to serve it?

Which OS are the computers running that the monitors are connected to?

If Linux and they are running X then then the serial numbers may be in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. If they are not there then the monitors probably don't report their serial numbers but you could try with the read-edid package (might need the parse-edid package too). The protocol is Extended display identification data (EDID).
