Screen Resulution

I find that my screen resolution appears too big and even in the display properties am not able to get the best suited properties for my desktop.

Is this a common problem ? How can I fix this ..

what distribution are you using?
In this forum -> go to 'Quick links' up top, and go to 'Edit profile'. Put your distribution in there for others to see.
Mine is suse 10.0 as you can see on the left here

sorry, maybe i misunderstood the question.

do you mean the resolution is too SMALL? ie, its 640*480 when it could be 1280*1024, but the desktop properties arent allowing you to make it larger?

can you look in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, near the bottom, under the display or monitor properties and post those sections?

or maybe he he didn't instaled video drivers
for that first u have to recompile kernel and install video drives first and after that reconfigure xorg.conf
