OK here is the problem.

I want to have 1600x1200 available as a resolution in x (as I play games in 1600x1200....) but when I start x (I have it default to 1280x1024) I get a weird 'virtual' like desktop.....

the resolution is at 1280x1024, but Linux STILL thinks it is 1600x1200 and lets me 'scroll' around on a huge desktop.......

Is there anyway to have 1600x1200 available as a resolution, but NOT have a desktop that is bigger than the screen (1280x1024 in my case)?

Thanks,

If your using RedHat, I do believe there is a option during Xconfigurator if you want the virtual desktop enabled.
If not, the only other way that I know of would be in your XF86Config file and you would have to manually tell it to be disabled. Depending on your setup, you should be able to see the config file if you go that route and find where Virtual Display is enabled.
