Screen resolution issue

Hi there
I am VERY new to Linux but have learned so mucj from this site in a short space of time. I have a strange thing happening which I hope someone can help with.
I have loaded Kubuntu.
When I boot it up I get a screen with very big characters and I cannot increase the resolution to change things. However if I restart from the Quit menu it comes up ok.
This happens every time....

Any ideas?

Firstly, you should install the appropriate driver for your video card. Usually, the driver comes with some commands which are useful to auto-config the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. After installing the driver, try to find and use the commands. Secondly, if those commands don't work properly, you must configure the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manually. (For more details, google xorg.conf for your VGA card). Wish you luck !

Thanks for your response. I am still a bit confused. Why should it work ok after I restart it after the first boot.

Maybe I should have stuck with Winwoze....:-)
