Screen resolution

I have debian 7.3 (wheezy) installed on my laptop, and the latest linuxmint version (petra?) on a desktop pc

I'm trying to find out how to change the screen resolution for both. In windows xp you would just go to display properties in control panel and change from 16 bit to 32 bit as you need depending on what you program you are trying to run.

I can't seem to find anything like that in Debian or Linuxmint.

Anyone have any ideas?

Somewhere in the Settings section of each of your distros there will be an icon labeled Display. That's what you need.

That is what I was looking for, but I can't find it.

If you're using KDE open the System Settings program in your menu. In the Hardware section of System Settings click on Display and Monitor. Then click on Size & Orientation and you'll be able to set your screen resolution.
