Anything in the logs?
Hardware of your computer?

guy-iv 05-23-2016 12:26 PM

don't know where the logs are at took my computer to best buy and had hardware checked they said everything was good still under warranty HP pavilion model 15-ab121dx had this same problem with kubuntu when i installed it

This sounds as if it might have to do with the graphics card. What graphics card is installed in that machine?

The logs are normally in /var/log, but if the machine is locking up, it likely freezes before it has a chance to write to the logs.

Remember, the more information you provide, the easier it is for others to help you.

Welcome to the forums.

Looks like a AMD Radeon R6 :-:)

Go to Menu and find the System tab, look for the Screensaver options then turn the screensaver OFF. If freezing continues it is certain that the problem is caused somewhere else.

This is normal. Unwanted nodes shall be cleared first before the root filesystem is mounted.

Hope that helps.

Maybe try a more 'lightweight' distribution:-

Nvidia, AMD/ATI/Radeon and Intel work out of the box, or the system can be tweaked to work fairly easily. You can get help at the Ubuntu Forums.
Maybe try the AMD driver (last resort)
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/linux
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver

Lubuntu needs at least 1 GB of RAM.

Look in the dmesg log.

Did windows lock up too?
Does the Live Ubuntu 16.04 CD boot up all the way long enough to use the terminal?

If so run this command to find out what GPU you have.
Code:

lspci | grep -i VGA
post the output.

Your machine is not bad. I have tried installing linux distros on even cheaper or older specs than you have, there was no problem.

It could be something else. Probably there were misconfigurations during installation, or that, probably your installer has a problem. After downloading the iso check the md5sum first before burning.

I may not have perceived correctly your post. You seem to have problem expressing thought in the english. Pardon me. What language are you at home? This forum is and must be in english.

Good luck.
