Screen is LO RES, optical mouse acts crazy
 

I have a GeForce 2 card. I installed Mandrake 8.2, right? It took me a while to get my screen to work. I supose it might be partially fault of my old ass monitor, but hey it works well under Windows. Anyway... I cant get the resolution up. Im stuck with a weak 800x600. I need to get to 1200x700. Any ideas.

Another think... Im using a dexxa optical mouse. It doesnt work too well. You know...it jiggles it wiggles it basicaly gets on my nerws. The distribution I have (I only have the first CD) dont bring with it any driver for optical mouse. Where can I get one? uhmmm How do I install it. Im so green it hurts.

You need to run your xf86config and keep on screwing with it and trying out different options until you get all the screen resolutions you want and the mouse to function properly. It took me a while to find out how to correctly set up my mouse and make it so I can swith between 640x480,800x600, and 1024x768. Mandrake has a help tool to help with configuring your xf86config file, SuSE it´s SaX2, for Red Hat it´s Xconfigurator, im not sure what mandrake´s tool is though, maybe the same as redhat. Aaaaah, the joys of linux, if at first you dont succeed keep on trying until the men in the white jackets come and take you away.

If you think something is on a disc you didn't d/l or buy or whatever, you can go to one of the mandrake ftp mirrors and get the file. Look in the Mandrake8.2/Mandrake/RPMS folders. Good luck.

Linux might not actually have "drivers" for your mouse. I might be wrong on this, but I think that most of the mouse support is generic. For example, if it's hooked in via PS2 port then the driver is a PS2 driver; if it's hooked in USB, same etc.
