screen goes blank after nvidia upgrade

I finally got my nvidia Geforce2 Ti driver upgraded (needed binutls installed). Now whenever I boot into GNOME GUI, it takes about ten minutes for the desktop/login screen to appear. I can see all for the boot loader stuff (all OK ). Something flashes for about .5 sec then a blank screen for about 10 minutes. Once I get to the login screen/desktop everything works fine.
Any ideas?

underneath where it says Driver "nvidia" in your XF86Config file, add the following line ::
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV"

I had a similar issue with GF4 Ti4200

I had a similar issue with GF4 Ti4200 on Mandrake 9.1 - to fix I booted to command instead of x and reloaded the drivers as root - you know ># sh Nvidia-xxxx-xxx.run and that fixed the problem - not sure why I had to load twice - but I then duplicated this with another box and a GF3 card - never waited 10 mins to see if it appeared just got the flickering and shut it down - but the reloaded fixed it - did not touch the xconfig files again or anything - hope it works for ya !!!:D

.....and thats why i gave the answer i did :D cause this is a known issue and when the wait happens, that means its getting stuck with the probing of them devices...by reloading the drivers, it will not get him anywheres....
as you see him saying his drivers did install successfully and he is getting into X, BUT after the waiting game is done :p
