Im a brand new baby when it comes to linux. I've just installed ubuntu 8.04.1 (64 bit) on my hp g60-12ous notebook. I did a dual boot. Right now it has the preinstalled vista home premium and ubuntu as i just mentioned. the computer has 3 GB of RAM. processor is 2.00 ghz amd turion X2 with nvidia geforce 8200g. basically, my problem is that my screen goes black after ubuntu finds and installs a driver and i enable it. then is says to reboot so it can complete the installation of the driver. my goal is to fix my resolution. currently, iam at 800x600 with 61Hz refresh rate. so anyways, when i do reboot, it shuts down and then starts back up again (as expected) and when the ubuntu logo shows up with the progress bar it begins to load. when it finishes loading...wham! the screen goes black. it looks like when its turned off but the computer is still on! you can see the leds and the hard drive spinning. btw, i haven't done any modification to the system other than just clicking "enable" on the driver ubuntu has found (which driver?? i don't know). other than that...i still haven't even downloaded and install the 127 updates waiting for me. i need help with my driver ( for purposes like compiz fusion but most importantly my screen resolution).
Plz help. Much will be appreciated.
P.s. do feel free to ask any pertinent information you feel i left out. Thank you for your patience and your time!
