Screen freezes at Install Linux Mint 17.2

I want to install Linux Mint 17.2 ( 32 bits , Mate ) on my former XP PC , it has a NVIDIA GeForce Fx550 Video card and in the beginning I got error messages like :
failed to Idle channel 0xcccc0000 after which the system shut down .After some research on the forum I found something to try :
From a TTY interface give in :
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current

It start then with a package , if this works ( there are other times when it fails to unpack ) I get to the Startup screen of Linux Mint with 4 icons in the middle after a long time , in which I can click on the icon of a Hard Drive and it loads the Desktop with :Install Linux Mint 17.2 at the left corner.
If I click this one nothing happens , it just freezes I can hear it is trying to read from the DVD where I placed Linux Mint 17.2 on but that is about that.
I do not know what else to do .
I thought about placing the right Linux Mint driver for Nvidia on the DVD as well next to the Linux Mint installation files , but then my PC does no longer boot from the DVD .

Is there anything else I can try ?

Did you do an md5 checksum of the downloaded iso file to verify the download?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

Check the minimum hardware requirements for Mint at the site below. If it had the old xp on it, it might not meet the minimum requirements.

You're trying to install nvidia-current on a live system to install LM 17.2?

Don't think that is going to work.
Don't follow random instructions from random internet posts.

Do an Integrity Check from the medium as well as verify the md5sum of the .ISO you burned for LinuxMint 17.2 Mate
See http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2627 for Mate.

Did it fail the minimum hardware requirement test?
How did you burn the iso image to the DVD? Did you select the option to burn as an image?
You are booting the computer from the DVD, correct?

I checked the minimum hardware requirements , the system passed this .
I burnt the DVD as an image with the InfraRecorder program recommended at the Linux Mint Installion site .
I am booting the PC from the DVD , it does not support booting from USB .
