screen freezes after making changes to the screen resolution with Xconfigurator

Hi,

I am using RedHat 7.3 (GNOME).

System Details:

Video Card : Sis 6326 AGP
Processor : Pentium III
RAM : 127 MB

My problem is :

After I change the resoultion using Xconfigurator, a message
is displayed that "X server is restarting", and then after
restarting, nothing appears. Only the mouse pointer in the
shape of an 'X' is visible after which I have to press the restart button as the only other option available.

ThankYou
Sharath

Well,i think u must go for lower colours(16 bit or lower ,may be 8 bit) see to it that the refresh rates u have given lies with in the ranges ur moniter can comply.check /var/log/XFree.0.log for errors(i dont think there will be any errors there, since X server crashed).
Make sure that ur card is supported.if it is not supported dont mention it in the XF86Config file, just go for driver "vga".try xf86config instead of Xconfigurator.
