Screen flickers with Debian 7 (wheezy) on sony vaio x (GMA500)
I've installed debian wheezy (stable) on my soy vaio x (which runs a GMA500 display chipset).
The driver being loaded is gma500_gfx. the problem I'm having is that the screen randomly flickers (goes black) for a second or so, every minute or. Any suggestions how to solve this? the laptop is unusable in this manner. TIA |
When that was happening on my HP desktop PC (Nvidia 9100 onboard graphics), it was because my Soyo monitor does not emit a proper EDID, and every time the message indicating such was emitted, the screen would flicker in a manner similar to what you're describing. Until the nouveau driver was fixed, I used the Nvidia driver

tnx.
The workaround I've found is to blacklist the gma500_gfx module. The screen doesnt go black now, but graphics updates are very slow. Cant say I'm happy with Debian :-( |
