screen display shrunk in IBM thinkpad i series laptop

I installed vector linux standard 6 into my IBM thinkpad iseries laptop.all went well till i started to configure the X server, there i got these options
  • VXConf
  • AUTO
  • Vesa
  • FBDev

1st I chose VXConf,a message showed sayn "detecting hardware" and then the screen went blank, i waited for awhile and since there was no response hit the power button,i tried all the other options, except auto both others gave the same results.after that whaen i started X the screens display area shrunk,it was not all over the screen but was reduced to a little bit smaller area in the display,i tried to find a a button which would stretch the screen, but couldnt find any.i checkd the x.conf file but it was blank 2,i tried to change the screen resolution
there were two resolutions available but neither worked,

i got this problem solved, but just in case som1 else runs into this problem, i got to know from the vector forum that running xorgconf or xorg -configure would work,i gathered all the info i could about my display and video driver and ran xorgconf, and it worked
