Screen blank(black)! after reinstalling suse
 

I reinstall my suse10.1 but after the installation system reboot and start the OS i can hear the suse(starting sound) but the screen is totally black blank. I tried to enter by safe mode still ok, but all in terminal. I cannot configure using commands. Please help me how to solve this problem if I have to solve this in terminal.

Try to make # startx, if it fails make # grep EE /var/log/X/0/log and post the output here.

That would be /var/log/Xorg.0.log

From the looks of it, it's a matter of a misconfigured xorg.conf file. Did you replace any hardware part since you first installed Suse such as a monitor or a videocard? That would be the best explanation of this unexpected issue.

To work around it, log in as root at the command line and type

vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Scan the file for the Device section and locate the "driver" entry and replace it with

"driver" "vesa"

Remember that you need to press i to start editing and esc to stop doing so. Saving is done through the command :wq and if you make an error and you need to close the file without saving :q!

Then type startx or reboot.

I refer to other posts, and configure my video card by xorgconfig. Thanks anyway.

Oh no, the problem still exists! After i configure the xorgconfig when i reboot again , for sometimes it can detect the video card but not all the time. It usually can only detect the video card after the 1st time booting(failed to detect video card). How do i fix this permanently? I don want to reboot it everytime i use.... Please help me thanks.

Post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and details about the videocard.

It looks as if your xorg.conf lists incorrect refresh rates; replace them with the ones listed in this link.

If it still doesn't work, replace Driver "i810" with "vesa". That is not the best choice but it should be failsafe.

I think it's the resolutions, though.
