Question Sceensaver stops console commands

It would seem that every time I input a console command that takes a while to complete and my screensaver comes on the command just stops and hangs there. When I come back to desktop I have to close the console and resart my command.

I use Mandrake community 10.1. Nothing is frozen or wrong otherwise. No other software (GUI) does that and to work around the problem I have to change the delay for my screen saver to come on but I don't like that solution.

It's annoying because I process video streams with those commands (transcode package).

Did I miss anything obvious. I am what you could call a semi-newbie, but I still have a lot to learn obviously.
