scanner problem Epson 1250

I get a "Failed to start scanner -- device is busy" message when I call XSane Image Scanning from Apps/Graphics.

sane-find-scanner reports:

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x010f [EPSON Scanner 010F], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:001:005

and scanimage -L says:

device `plustek:libusb:001:005' is a Epson Perfection 1250/Photo USB flatbed scanner

AND

Xsane Image Scanning reports:

Device 002
Loaded backend: Plustek:libusb:001
Sane version 1.0.15

What am I missing?

Removing libsane-extras and setting the lamp pre-heat to 30 seems to have resolved the problem. Whew!!!
