How may I check a disk for errors and have them fixed if possible? kind of like "scandisk" utility on Windows.

I want to check one of my partitions, Because when I mount them the mouse occasionally freezes for about 10seconds.

fsck (filesystemcheck)
Are you mounting it as the correct filesystem type?
run fdisk to see what filesystem type a partition has.
