SB Live! Driver Installation Problems
 

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble installing my sound card drivers. I have a Creative Labs SB Live! Emu101k card, on SuSE 9.0 Pro. And I've already downloaded the unofficial driver for it, from the OpenSource Creative sound card website linked from the compatability page on this site(it wouldn't let me post the link) (the official driver gave me a radio-static type sound), but I don't even know where to start. I've read the installation guide but it seems to assume that I have a grasp of how to recompile the kernel and change configuration settings. I have absolutely no idea where any of the files I'm supposed to edit are located (if indeed that's what I'm supposed to be doing) or even where the ones I extracted are supposed to be placed. Even just a link to a website that will teach me basics of installing and config on Linux would help.

open up a terminal and su to root and type alsaconf,what happens?

It came up with a configuration prompt... I don't know what's going on now. How did that work?

I have the sound working but now I'm getting Fuzz out of my speakers with the sound.

Open up a mixer kmix or any mixer you have and play with the settings while you are listening to something,one of the settings,I forget which,you will need to turn off,play with each one and if nothing happens return it to the original position and try the next one.
