Saving settings
 

Is there a way to save the systems settings for look and feel to a file so that when I reinstall RH8 I don't have to spend so much time changing things back to the way I like them?
Something like WinXP's Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Most of your 'settings' are saved in your user's home directory as . files. So if the application you wanted to save settings for is gaim, then you would backup the .gaim file in your user's home directory. To make things easy you can backup everything there, but make sure that all versions of your old software are the same (or similar) as the old ones ;)

What I really want is the settings for KDE. All the appearance settings, like desktop background , icons style, taskbar and menu style.

Are those settings all in one folder or file?

funkenbooty; I expect those would be in the .kde directory, inside your home directory.

When I last migrated my Linux distro, I went one step further than MasterC's reccomendation and just backed up my entire home directory, which seems to work pretty well. Pretty much the only settings that might then be unaccounted for is your XFree video configuration, and any network services you might be running. You'll definatly have KDE covered.
