Unhappy saving html from windows editor looses permissions

I am using a linux box to develop my web site, but I am editing the html on my windows box using samba to mount the var/www/html folder. I am able to load and save the html doc from windows but every time I save it I loose the permissions I granted it and others have no permissions. I end up being denied permission to see the file by apache when I try to test it out. When I upload my html to my real server I have no problems, what am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong, a windows filesystem doesn't allow for file ownership or per-user/group permissions.

Perhaps the upload process doesn't preserve any permissions. When I upload pages to my webserver it gives them all default permissions of 644.

solution!

In the etc/samba/smb.conf file I changed the write permission for this share to 777 and it worked fine. BTW, this was based on some advice from the excellent (in my experience) support staff at bluehost.com, my web host.
