Sarge (Sparc version) post-install problems
I've installed Sarge on a Sun Ultra 5. A couple questions.
The OpenBoot PROM is unreachable. I made a Sun disk label and created the whole disk partition as it said in the Debian (Sparc) installation guide. Yet when I press Stop + A to halt the system and bring up the PROM, all that happens is that Debian freezes. No visible "ok" prompt. When I try to log into Gnome I get an error message. It basically says that it can't write to my home directory, and drops me back to the login screen. I checked my home directory, it's owned by me, and the permissions are rwxr--r-- (others might have execute permissions? I'm not at the machine right now so I can't check). All my homedir has at the moment is a .bashrc, a .somethingelserc (not X-related), and a .Xauthority file, and the .Xauthority file is 0 byes. I tried deleting the 0 byte file, and it makes no difference, it just get re-created next time I try to log in. Root gets farther, but it freezes at a solid gray background with a very vague error that doesn't tell me a darn thing. |
