SANE to INSANE
I think that's the order things occur when you attempt to get your scanner working on FC3.
I have an HP PSC 2175 scanner I installed the hpojj software from http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/ and all is well with that. I uncommented the #hpoj line in the ../sane.d/dll.conf I installed the ptal libraries and all is well there too. When I run 'ptal-init setup' and say yes to USB support it detetcs me scanner and displays the following: """""" Probe for USB-connected devices ([y]/n)? y Probing "/dev/usb/lp0"... Found "PSC 2170 Series" with serial number "MY34QC485B73". This device is already set up as "mlc:usb:PSC_2170_Series". Probing "%004%001"... No device found. Probing "%003%003"... No device found. Probing "%003%002"... No device found. Probing "%003%001"... No device found. Probing "%002%001"... No device found. Probing "%001%001"... No device found. blah blah blah then, Starting the HP OfficeJet Linux driver. mlc:usb:PSC_2170_Series """""""""" And then back to the prompt, as if everything is ok. So then I run xsane as root (it says not to, but whatever). I did this right after I installed the hpojj software and it sent a print page that said "HP-SCAN", but then just left my printer blinking and the xsane GUI prompted me and said no scanner can be found. scanimage -L says nothing is found: """""No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,........""""" sane-fine-scanner says this: """""" sane-find-scanner # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that # you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter. # Also you need support for SCSI Generic (sg) in your operating system. # If using Linux, try "modprobe sg". found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x2b11 [PSC 2170 Series]) at libusb:003:003 # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage. # Not checking for parallel port scanners. # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports # can't be detected by this program. """"" And lastly my ../sane.d/hp.conf looks like this(excerpt of course): """"" #new hp added /dev/usb # USB-scanners supported by the hp-backend # HP OfficeJet PSC 2175 usb 0x03f0 0x2b11 """"""" Any suggestions??? It seems all the software is working correctly, so I suspect my hp.conf isn't right. I can't find anything that explains how to enter data into this file, so i used config i found online. |
OMG!@!@#@!#$%^
Well, just like i said...it's realy INSANE and NOT SANE! I turned off my printer and turned it back on...went into staroffice >> insert pic from scanner and lo and behold, my scanner was there and it scanned just fine! |
and all is well in the world :)
