ok nice. first i will tell what those geek words were
rpm - redhat package manager, these are similar to .msi file in windows. or say in general terms they are installation files for any package.
now since u have redhat CDs with u so its got to be rpm and since u can see ur system on the network so samba is installed also
srpms - this is also like rpm but with a difference that instead of software its sourcecode gets installed at /usr/src/redhat/ directory along with some more files.
