I have a win2k box with an hp psc1315 printer and a linux box with Debian distro (Knoppix on hard drive). I am trying to use samba to print on the windows printer. I can use smbclient to see the printer, and I have used cups admin site and lpadmin to configure the printer. I updated and upgraded my Debian packages and then installed the latest hplip from sourceForge (added relevant packages). I used "lpadmin -p hpTest -v smb://user
assword@rel/hppsc131 -P /home/wor/hplip-0.9.4/prnt/hpijs/ppd/HP-PSC_1310-hpijs.ppd". This seems to work (I must do an enable, accept and ...). I have also used the cups admin local site to select the same configuration. When I print the printer moves the head several times and then starts flashing the power light (I think this indicates an error). On the win2k box I must stop the spooler, delete the spool file, and then cycle power on the printer. Then it is ready to go again. I can queue up multiple jobs on the Linux box.
I connected the printer directly to the Linux box and was surprised when I set it up using cups admin that it worked (printed HP Printer Test Page). I want to leave the printer on the win2k box as I am not ready to use Linux full time.
I used a laptop running winxp and was able to connect to the win2k's printer.
