I had some very strange things happen.
Even if the samba permissions are 777, if the directory permissions (in linux) are 700 then the files saved through samba cannot be accessed by others (through samba), my solution (it is the network scratch pad) was chmod /share 777 and now the samba permissions fully govern what happens.
I think this may extend to your situation as well though hopefully you won't taken the quick and dirty steps I took to solve it.
