samba share permissions keep resetting

It seems I always have to do a recursive chmod 777 on the shared folder, because sometimes it will decide to switch back. Is there a way to force all files and folders to stay put? It's ennoying since I'm in the middle of something and then it suddently stops allowing me to write to it.
