Can u access the samba server for the linux box itself?
Make sure you restart nmbd as well after changning configuration.
oh and what happens if you do "\\<samba server ip>" from the windows box

Demonbane, thanx for your help...here's the situation now....


I can see the shared directory from my windows using "\\<samba server ip>" as you said. But it still doesn't work from network neighborhood. Also, I cannot create any files or folders when I access it that way, although my smb.conf says writable = yes. last problem is I cannot access the samba server from the linux box itself. It says "NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE"

Please help and thanx in advance.

check to make sure that permisions are set correctly on your linux share.. also type this in a terminal: testparm and see if it tells you some thing in there...

I am getting the same error too. When I configured samba from the default setup, I was able to see the samba server in the NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD screen (on the XP laptop). I reconfigured it with a diffent setup and now I don't see a thing.
