Samba Problem
 

Hi

I am using Samba latest version. I took the HOW-TOs' as a guide to install Samba and did everything in the way they have told.

I donno why my Linux shares are not visible from the Windows OS. My other machines are on the same subnet ( 1 WinXP , 1 Win2000). When I click my linux box from Windows it gives a promp that: "The network path cannot be found".

I read couple of postings regarding Samba as well but nothing has a clarification on this issue.

Any GURUS out here to help me out??

I had a similar problem with my samba server. I fixed it by following the advice in the Samba Trouble Shooting Guide.

A firewall may be blocking net bios data between the machines. From a DOS prompt, try typing:

nbtstat -A ip (add the samba machine's IP address in place of ip).

If it doesn't list any shares, then port 137 is blocked. So you need to reconfigure the firewall to permit UDP traffic on ports 137 and 138, and TCP traffic on 139.
