SAMBA Netbios and WorkGroup Name does not show up in Network Neighbourhood

Hi all,

I have installed SAMBA on an AIX box and have configured it to work with a share directory successfully.

However, the strange thing is when I browse it in NT network neighbourhood, the workgroup and netbios name don't appear. Instead, the actual UNIX hostname appears as both workgroup and netbios name.

For example, in my smb.conf, the 2 lines are like:
[global]
workgroup = a
netbios name = b

in my AIX box, hostname returns c.

When I browse or search from my Win2000 PC, I cannot find a or b but c appears as both domain and computer name.

Anybody know why?

Best Regards,

John L

Would a WINS server be the problem with your network neighborhood?
