in command terminal as root user type:

Try using webmin

Webmin provides a real nice gui for configuring Samba shares... It's a good newbie interface for a bunch of stuff... Samba is in the 'server' section.

Check out www.webmin.com for more info on Webmin. It's part of a default install on Mandrake, don't know about Red Hat.

On the surface Samba appears to be easy but there are alot of issues running underneath. Mostly to do with security and permissions. I have been at mine for about a week now. I have had some luck mostly if I turn off the password authentication. For now, that's what I did and let Linux handle my file access by using the owner and group permissions. i know that it is not the most secure that way but it works for now and the users can access the server. I am going to keep trying on getting the authentication to work. RH9 comes with SWAT to configure Samba with and I never have been able to get it to work. The best method I have found so far is right out of a O'Reilly book "Using Samba". It walks you through the simplest share and smb.conf all the way up to a secure server. Might be something to look at. Good luck! I haven't tried Webmin that di11rod recommends but you bet I am going to check it out!
