Samba config help

Hey all,

I'm fairly new to linux and entirely new to server administration.

I am trying to make a Samba file share with 3 folders: an administrator's folder that is only browseable/writable by administrator, a read only which can be viewed by user1 and administrator, and a read/write dropbox folder for user1 and administrator.

I have read countless tutorials but I can't seem to get my smb.conf file correct.

Also, do I need an administrator and user1 login for the OS as well?

BTW: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop Ed.

All help is appreciated, thanks so much.

Hi boyfromthebuck,

You can use read list and write list directives as your requirement.

read list and write list accept username and groupname as value.listed users or group can read and write on that folder

post your smb.conf, and explain what you've tried so far, and errors/logs

Thanks sem007, that will make it easier. When I tried accessing it from my macbook it said still couldn't mount the file though. I'm guessing out could still be that the users were not properly created?
