How did you install samba?
How are you accessing the internet?
What is the exact error message?

Yes - but how? Which packages did you install? You may not have installed all needed packages.

That could be important - samba talks to windows...

Wait - which page?

You open firefox, and the homepage is set to www.mozilla.com? Or is it a page on your HDD (that's the default). What, exactly, you do to get that message is important.

Probably the easiest way to install samba in gutsy is just to try to share a folder. You get a dialog asking if you want to install it... you say "yes". Easy.

With samba installed... try to ping google (or something). If you cannot - try pinging the XP box.

Usually, if net access is blocked for some reason, the browser error is "404 not found".
