How I can log in as administrator to edit the smb.conf ? I set the smb.conf to 777 full control and I did some and then couldn't save it to the file .... HELP

DrOzz 01-29-2004 05:40 PM

type :
su -
and then type the root password

but may i ask how you set the permissions on the file if you claim you don't know how to log in as root?

Robush 01-29-2004 06:15 PM

well, all i did in ternimate window

[Ro@localhost Ro]$ su -
Password:
[root@localhost root]# cd /etc/samba
[root@localhost samba]# chmod 777 smb.conf

then I opened up smb.conf from the directory in /etc/samba/ with gedit

I reedit it and couldn't overwrite the file. I have to login as owner. I have no clue how to log in as owner.

hope that clear you up
