S3 Prosavage Graphics

Hi peeps, I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 9 on my system, but I cant run it no higher than 640x480 which is annoying. My graphics are onboard, my graphics chip is a "Savage Graphics ProSavageDDR" Ive tried altering the XF86Config file to different resolutions and then changing them in the display set up but the monitor just goes blank!!! Please help, I dont know what to do next.

All help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Carl....
