Oh, the embarassment of your second ever post on a forum going so fundementally wrong!

cjmdoire, I take it that you have a problem with WINE? Post the question and we'll see what we can do.

We promise not to laugh at you.

So you're willing to help ? I'll take it. Actually, I gave up Wine, maybe not crucial at the moment. I am living into Linux world for 2 weeks, I think it must be normal I've got some problems, but with good advice I should get through it, shouldn't I?
My system: Ubuntu 5.04, pc with amd 2400+ proc 512 Mo ram, 2 hd , 1 for xp, the second ( 60GO) dedicated to Ubuntu. My first problem: installing my printer (hp pcs1210)
what I did: download the .ppd file and then install with the Printer installer. No problem. But xsane is unable to see the scanner. After many searches, I found out I should download the hpoj file. Following the instructions, I stop when I have to connect to http://localhost:631. Have the feeling that CUPS is not running or is not configured properly. How can I check that?
Sorry to bother with basics questions, but thank you for your help.
