running windows programs in Linux


Can I run windows apps in Linux, if yes what do I need and how do I do it.

Yes you can, you need a program to emulate the windows application interface like wine. This is not a trivial thing. If you go to www.winehq.org and do some reading there, you will find information on how to install wine, and hoe to configure each application.

I would encourage you to look for native linux apps that do the same thing, there are thousands of free apps. You don't need an emulation layer, and you don't need to configure till your fingers fall off.

You're prob better off finding a Linux equiv, eg: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...ndows_software.
Fasiling that, you could look at a fake MS env wine: http://www.winehq.org/
or use a full virtual env eg Xen.

Thanks for the info, what I was looking for is a video editing software, and I thing I may have found one .... Lives and VJtool
So I will look at these and go from there again thanks for the help
