Running old binary on Fedora Core 3

I'm trying to run a binary that was compiled by others in 2001. I have the C source code but don't know anything about the Linux compiler that was used. It makes the output file but it is empty. I get an error message

"Incorrectly built binary which accesses errno or h_errno directly. Needs to be fixed."

Can this be fixed or worked around without recompiling?

Thanks -

Is that all that is outputted? Anything else?

Without knowing more about the error, i would say just recompile the C source. Odds are, the compiler used was gcc. Its probably old libraries that the binary linked against, perhaps installing a older (2001 area) disto?
