Running mssql server in linux ?

I am currently in the process of making the transition to linux, but I just stumbled across this. Is at all possible to run a mssql server in linux ? I am currently in the development stages of creating a game, and the engine I choose (realm crafter) uses mssql db ... so I am stuck on that, I know there is vmware, which I might end up using, as I will be running an amd celeron 175 2.2 ghz 2mb cache, dual core and 4 gb ram .. it should not use all the resources in linux should it ? I will also be using programs like maya 3d and photoshop 9.0 and 3d studio max, to name a few.

Any help on what I should, aside from stay with microsoft is appreciated

Hi

And welcome to LQ!

Well, VMWare won't chomp up all the resources, but it will take
its toll. And the db-engine won't bee as quick as it would be on
the machine running natively, either.

I'd suggest re-thinking your approach and using an FOSS alternative,
maybe SQLite as an embedded SQL Server...

Cheers,
Tink
