Running Linux in windows

Hi. I have both linux and windows xp on my system. I sometimes use msn messenger's voice and webcam to talk to my gf and so I was wondering if there was a way I could use linux in the windows environment since I can't use messenger's voice and webcam in linux. I just need to use the terminal in linux to do some c shell scripting. Thanks!

For scripting I'd just install a minimal cygwin install.

You could buy VMWare and run Messenger under
linux, though :0

Did you actually install it?

Try tcsh ... It's probably not part of the default
install (I can't see a good reason why one would
want it, specially not for programming ;})

Hi Tinster,

I have a question to put in this thread. Can we run Gnome or KDE using the Cygwin X server on a local machine. I mean, Can Gnome work with windows through X server.

Currently I have Cyqwin installed, but I have to log on onto a cluster machine to use graphical shell (Gnome/KDE)!! Is there a way to use it on a single machine??

Thanks a lot !!

Hi Schrei,

I don't use Cygwin, and if I did I wouldn't
feel the urge to use either of the bloated
DMs on windows....

However, I can use search-engines:
http://www.cygwin.com/xfree/
http://kde-cygwin.sourceforge.net/

But then, you could probably try search
engines yourself, too?

Cheers,
Tink
