running .EXE on linux, possible?

is it possible to run windows application on linux???my friend told me that it is possible.what software do i need in my linux to run windows application?im running sles 9.0 and i want to give it a try ruuning exe in linux. =)

You can run some Windows programs on Linux using a program called WINE. Many distributions include some version of WINE on their discs or software installation sources. Since you are using SLES 9 which is a bit dated now, you can get the latest WINE packages from winehq.

Crossover Linux is another choice -

It support very large microsoft database (Games & Applications).

WINE is a free of charge, free software layer on top of Linux that matches Windows calls with Linux calls.

Cross-Over office is a commercial enhancement to WINE (costs money) to make some popular programs work better (MS Word, Photoshop, etc)

Cedega is a commercial enhancement to WINE (costs money too) that focusses on running popular Windows games on Linux.

Because WINE is in early beta stages none of the above will ensure Windows apps will run fully correctly (yet).

I suggest you go to appdb.winehq.org to see if the programs/games you want to run are supported.

please note, that most programs listed here, are a combination of cedega, crossover and wine itself. in other words, if you see a program listed, this doesn't always mean, it is tested with wine itself. It could be tested with cedega, or crossover.

how about space use when using wine/cedega or crossover....same lika windows too ??

You mean something like C:\Program Files\Quake3\Quake3.EXE ?
Wine will make a hidden map in your home folder wich Wine is able to acces with \ instead of /.
Edit:In reallity it's something like /home/terrorisk/.Wine/Program Files/Quake3/Quake3.EXE
