Exclamation Running Dansguradian: access.log problems

Hi, I'm very new to linux, and am trying to set up a proxy/caching as well as a web filtering server on my CentOS box.

I've installed squid and webmin and I've just finished make install for dansguardian.

I am trying to start it up, from /etc/init.d/dansguardian start however, I recieve this message:

"Error opening/creating log file. (check ownership and access rights).
I am running as nobody and I am trying to open /usr/local/var/log/dansguardian//access.log"

Take note of the bolded //

I've just created the file, however, what do I do now?

Also - I cannot find dansguardian.conf

Thanks

Welcome to LQ

chown that log file after taking a look at your users and group settings. Or just create that file as root and change permissions

chown <username> <full file name>

Thanks amani

I created a file called access.log and did this: chown 777 access.log to no avail.

This is from my notes.

# When rotating access logs, DG won't restart unless owned by nobody
Code:
chown -R nobody:nobody /var/log/dansguardian/
or in your case...
chown -R nobody:nobody /usr/local/var/log/dansguardian/
