Running a mail server

I have SUSE Linux 10.1. How do I run an IMAP mail server? I only care about receiving mail, not sending. Ideally, I want a catch-all account set up, so messages sent to anything@mydomain still end up going to my account.

My ISP does not block both SMTP and IMAP. I already have a domain, including full control over its DNS settings. I have root access on the server.

How do I get started? I know it's a common question, but every answer I've seen so far is either too basic, not for my particular distribution, or too specific (doesn't apply to me).

IMAP is the protocol used for retrieving mail from the mail server. To actually receieve mail you need to run an SMTP server so that other SMTP mail servers can transfer mail to you.

I always run Postfix for the SMTP and dovecot for the IMAP side of things. You should find them pretty easy to get going.

It looks like I got Postfix and dovecot (finally) cooperating, including a catchall account that just puts everything in my mailbox. Thanks.
