running *.iso w/o burning image to the cd/dvd

Greetings:

Is is possible to run an *.iso in linux without burning in cd/dvd. What is the command?

Also is this possible to windows also?

You can't "run" the iso, but you can mount it and access its contents, If your image is in /tmp/animage.iso and you want to mount it under /mnt/cdrom (I'm assuming a normal cdrom with is09660):

Yes, it is possible in windows, though not as easily as in linux
You can install virtual cd drive software (eg alcohol 120% ) to mount the iso image & run it as if there is a CD in the drive with same image
