Run Firefox with a YouTube clip on 128 MB RAM Debian?
Hey,
I'm a Linux rookie so please explain things to me like I would be five. Please don't question why I want to watch a YouTube clip on a Debian server. The server runs Debian 6 and I currently have root access in the terminal. That's all I got. No GUI just an idling server. What do I need in order to play a YouTube clip on the server? |
do you have graphical frontend (gui) at all? If not you will need to install X and at least a player. Firefox is probably not required.

You need to install an X server and probably VLC to play youtube videos. http://lifehacker.com/5577212/play-y...c-media-player.
You do not need to install a full GUI. |

You will barely be able to run a browser on 128MB of RAM, let alone play streaming video. Give it up.

Maybe ASCII video could be workable? http://asciitube.bgreco.net/

it would be tricky, but if you can activate your framebuffer console (either a vga= or gfxpayload= in your grub.conf), you can use link2 and vlc in a frabebuffer console..

Merely repeating your "need" is insufficient for a satisfactory result.
