rsync error?

Can anyone explain that in English? I went to run a rsync command that we have in a crontab but added -n -v and I get this error.

for grins i tried doing a ll and it said i didn't have permission to. so i switched to a directory i had permission to, and it looks like its running. why would it fail because of that? does rsync write a temp file to the current directory or something?
