rpm problems RHEL3
 

Hi,

I have a couple of questions about using rpm with RHEL3 (x86_64 on dual opteron) , I'm hoping someone can shed some light...

I'm having a little trouble installing the development tools, specifically gcc. I didn't select them at install time and I wanna install them now.

This server doesn't run xwindows so I can't use the gui program for installing applications. I want to use soemthing like the program that ran during the install, where I should have just selected the development tools in the first place. Is that possible or do I have to use rpm?

I wouldn't mind using rpm except that it seems a hassle to trackdown all the dependencies, though I may be going about it the wrong way. I got to a package called glibc-kernelheaders....rpm thatwasn't depenedent on anything else, but I got the following errors:

[root@localhost RPMS]# rpm -Uvh glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.34.x86_64.rpm
error: glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.34.x86_64.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID db42a60e
error: glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.34.x86_64.rpm cannot be installed

[root@localhost RPMS]# rpm -K glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.34.x86_64.rpm
glibc-kernheaders-2.4-8.34.x86_64.rpm: (SHA1) DSA sha1 MD5 GPG NOT OK

I'm not sure where to go from here... install from scratch? (T_T)

You might have some success doing an upgrade of that same system instead of a complete re-install.

Thanks for the reply. Doing an upgrade would probably have worked, though I ended up doing a complete re-install as it doesn't take so long and all the post install configuration that I did is well documented and easily redone.

So at this stage, I still have no idea why I couldn't install the rpms. I found a post somewhere in which getting rid of the Pubkeys file worked for someone who was getting a similar error, though in a slightly different situation. That didn't work for me though.

I'll keep trying to figure it out as I have time. I wondered if the media/disctibution disks might be bad (I've read posts where that was the case, though I don't think the symptoms were exactly the same).
