RPM Problem

I've been following the guide by Stanton Finley for setting up Fedora Core 5 and have this problem.

When I type this:
Code:
rpm -ivh http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/5/freshrpms-release/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm
It comes up with this error:

Code:
Retrieving http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/5/freshrpms-release/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm
error: skipping http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/5/freshrpms-release/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm - transfer failed - Unknown or unexpected error
warning: _url_cache[0] 0x86a6920 nrefs(4104647) != 1 ( )
Anyone know what the problem could be? I'm fairly new to Linux and have only used it for simple things before, so don't expect me to understand a lot of what's going on.

Thanks

You can download the rpm from here, save it locally and install it with the rpm command.

I was having problems connecting to most website so have just finished doing what you suggested, and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

Now for the next problem:

When I type
Code:
rpm --import http://dries.ulyssis.org/rpm/RPM-GPG-KEY.dries.txt
It comes up with this error
Code:
error: http://dries.ulyssis.org/rpm/RPM-GPG-KEY.dries.txt: import read failed(-1).
Segmentation fault
I previously managed to import http://freshrpms.net/packages/RPM-GPG-KEY.txt with no trouble.

Thanks for your reply, but I just sorted it by downloading the file first then using the rpm command. I didn't think it'd be solved by doing that, as it was a different error from my first question.

OK, I've finally got some free time so started trying to getting Fedora Core 5 working, but I'm not getting anywhere. It's just errors after errors.

Whenever I try to do a yum update i get this error:
Code:
[root@localhost etc]# yum -y update
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Update Process
Setting up repositories
dries [1/6]
http://ftp.belnet.be/packages/dries.ulyssis.org/fedora/linux/5/i386/dries/RPMS/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (101, 'Network is unreachable')>
Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: dries
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from dries: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
Error: failure: repodata/repomd.xml from dries: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
It seems strange to me that it says "Network is unreachable" because if I go to that address in firefox it will display correctly.

As I have not been able to find a solution to this I thought I may as well try what is given on http://www.fedorafaq.org for configuring yum, like so:
Code:
[root@localhost etc]# rpm -Uvh http://www.fedorafaq.org/yum http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-5.rpm
Retrieving http://www.fedorafaq.org/yum
Retrieving http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-5.rpm
error: skipping http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-5.rpm - transfer failed - Unknown or unexpected error
warning: _url_cache[1] 0x8874900 nrefs(143073495) != 1 ( )
As you can see I receive an error similar to the above thread. The previous time I just downloaded the rpm and installed it locally. However I am hoping someone will know of a fix for this problem so I do not have to download the rpm everytime. I also have a feeling that the rpm and yum errors are related and solving one with solve them both, and then I will finally be on my way to be able to start installing other stuff.

Please help. I have no idea what to try next.

Thanks.
