RPM hang fix by restart?

Every so often I'll run into a problem where I try to install and RPM package and all the little "#" marks go through and it gets to 100% but it never goes back to the shell. It hangs there forever (well nearly forever, i left it for about 15 minutes but my computer usually does things really fast) After this has happened to me twice, I've determined that it doesn't successfully install the package at all, so I have to restart and when I do it again, it works without a charm. Restarting is annoying and this doesn't really seem like it shouold be happening. Anyone else run into a similar problem, if so, how can you fix it (or prevent it) without restarting? Thank you in advance ^_^.

"how can you fix it"

You could try rebuilding your rpm data base:

rpm --rebuilddb

"about how often should I do this?"

I have only done it once in three years of fairly heavy rpm use when the rpm data base went whacky one day for unknown reasons.
