rpm install problems


when i try to install rpms under gnome i get this error Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying "/home/j/mixmagic-0.1.7-1.i386.rpm.

I had a look in synaptic and i dont think i have uninstalled anything but i could be wrong any help on this would be most apreciative

In a terminal, cd to the directory where the rpm resides.

Use su to become root.

Type in "rpm -ivh mixmagic-0.1.7-1.i386.rpm".

The program will then install.

oh yea didnt think of that :P

still would like to know what ic done for it not to do it automatic though

I've never had that problem with RH8&9/KDE. It's been a few years since I've used Gnome, so I don't know why you get that problem. If you right-click the file, do you get an install option on the menu?
